The Top 3 stories I am watching the most today.
1. Brian Billick gets canned. The man's own cockiness never helped.

2. The NHL plays outdoors on Tuesday. This will be awesome to watch.

3. Vince Young, to be or not to be? He's day to day. Maybe Collins should start anyway.

Jim Les and the Bradley Braves
Wow, what a difference a month or so can make.
At the start of the season, Bradley was a popular pick for the top 3 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Just three weeks ago, Bradley was 7-3 coming off an OT victory at Wright State after the close loss to Michigan State.
Now Bradley sits at 7-6, having lost 3 straight games overall and 3 straight home games this season! Not to mention the BU point guard, Daniel Ruffin, is out for at least a month.
Today, Peoria Journal Star writer Dave Reynolds noted that Jim Les has called the MVC race a marathon. Well, at this point, BU looks like the runner who went out too fast and has thrown his pace off. Without some Marion Jones technology, Bradley might be in some serious trouble.
As our friend from history, Thomas Paine was said, "These are the times that try men's souls."
Certainly, the Bradley Braves are going to be tried. Let's see how Coach Les and the team responds.

Gumbel- Good, bad, or worse
Anyone catch Bryant Gumbel doing NFL games on the NFL Network?
With the simulcast, his "talents" are getting more attention.

network/20071231084809990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001
Personally, I think he is awful at doing play-by-play. It's interesting to see the poll results on that page. Looks like the author of that story and me are not alone in our thinking.

Top 5 College Basketball Teams
Well, we are just about at the end of the non-conference season, and it's now time for the blood-and-guts conference beat-downs.
As we hit 2008, here are my top 5 teams in college hoops.
1. North Carolina- we will find out how good they are as the ACC gets underway
2. Memphis- they could make a serious run at an undefeated regular season
3. Kansas- will Bill Self finally quiet the Illini-nation?
4. Washington State- Bennett is a miracle worker. They will fall, but props for the start.
5. Michigan State- Not sure how good they are, but I gave them the nod over UCLA

Giants and Patriots
Am I the only one who isn't in love with the Giants/Patriots game and this whole ESPN-era bloated coverage?
Everyone loves that the Giants played their starters in a meaningless game. What did the Giants get for this?
Another loss? Yes, but that's not just the L in the lost column. They may have lost their best offensive lineman. Shaun O'Hara left knee folded in a bad bad way late in the game. If he is out for the playoffs, so are the Giants.
And on another note, I still don't like that Roger Godell opened up the broadcast to NBC and CBS. What does that say to all of the people who went out and paid for the NFL Network?
It's stupid.

Welcome to Great One Sports
Welcome to the home of the Great One. This site is designed to allow the discussion of all kinds of sports topics.
"Sports do not build character. They reveal it."
Everyone has heard that quote a million times. That's because it's true. We all love sports and everything it gives to us as fans. We love the action, the excitement, the amazing shots and games. The buzzer-beaters, hat tricks, and 350-yard drives. We love to see the a receiver flying across the middle get "jacked-up" by a monster linebacker. Sports reveals that raw, animal-like behavior we all have inside of us.
Of course, sports also reveals the dark side of people sometimes too. You have to take the good with the bad. Which means we have to deal with the Mike Vick's, the Rae Carruths, the Mike Tyson's, and the O.J. Simpson's.
I will talk about both sides of sports here at the Great One.
